You’ve never seen a cookout this big.
Southern Cookers has designed and built what it believes is the largest grill in the nation.
Requiring more than 7,000 pounds of Charcoal, the monster-sized ring of fire measures an astonishing 1,320 feet - spanning more than four football fields in length when stretched end to end. The colossal grill was used to cook up a feast for fans attending the "Coca-Cola Quarter-Mile Cookout" at the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.
The oval-shaped quarter-mile grill - assembled on part of the racetrack's frontstretch and pit road - was manned by celebrity chef and Food Network star Tyler Florence, host of "Tyler's Ultimate" and author of "Dinner at My Place" and "Stirring the Pot." Joining Chef Florence was some of NASCAR's most popular drivers, including Clint Bowyer, Bobby Labonte, Kyle Petty, and racing legend Bobby Allison, all of whom will traded their fire suits for "track aprons" as they helped grill up lunch for thousands of fans.
Sam Watford, who opened Southern Cookers about nine years ago, says when he first started making grills in his backyard 12 years ago, he would never have dreamed of making a quarter-mile grill.
But he has since learned that anything is possible and stands by his motto...
If you can draw it, we can build it....
